Yesterday I woke up from a nap to a text from a good friend of mine and my boyfriends saying, 'Where's (my boyfriends name)???' My boyfriend attends Northeastern University in Boston. I believe Northeastern University is only about a mile away from where the Boston Marathon finish line is and where the bombings happened. I am very grateful to say that my boyfriend was not in Boston when this happened because he has a co-op at Jersey City this semester.
The bombings in Boston has been the cover of every news station since the happening. The first article I read was from the New York Times and it broke my heart to believe someone would do this. With events like this happening every few months or years, we are reminded how sick this world really is. I can't grasp my mind around how cruel someone can be. Why take lives or hurt innocent people? There are still news coming out from this event and officials still don't have leads, unless you count the Saudi Arabian they're questioning, but that's not even fair because he was only visiting. I hope officials find the perpetrator and he or she receives punishment.
Not only does the event itself sadden me, but the social networks have been ridiculous. With what people are posting is sickening. Officials came out saying that there have been 3 deaths so far from the bombings, an 8-year-old boy and 2 adults. There has been a picture of a little girl running in the Boston Marathon going around, but people are saying she passed away from the event. This picture is not true. According to NBCNews, a boy named Martin Richard was the 8-year-old who unfortunately passed away from this event. There have been no records saying that a young girl passed away as if right now. Spreading the picture disrespects the family of the boy who actually passed away and disrespects the little girls family and friends who is completely fine. The people who started this picture are sick and the people who keep liking, sharing, and retweeting this picture need to read the articles and watch the news before doing so. Not everything you see on the Internet is true. The other picture that is going around is the story of the guy who is on the ground hugging what seems like hair and the story says that he lost her to the bombing and that he was going to propose to her. I've been keeping up with the articles and have not yet read how old the two adult victims were. Yes this is a tragedy, but people need to respect the event and not make up rumors for likes on Facebook or to have more friends on Facebook. You are disrespecting the tragic event and disrespecting the people who are actually involved.
I haven't read any articles about speculations or read about having a lead for who caused this, but I sure hope that they do find the perpetrator or started this tragic event.
